OUR STORY

Jim Lamalice, Biography

Born:  August 27, 1918 - November 2, 2014

Mr. Jim Lamalice was a very experienced traditional Dene harvester, who lived a healthy lifestyle within the, K'atl'odeeche First Nation Traditional Land Use area.

He was born in Hay River, North West Territories and was raised on the land with his siblings in the Buffalo Lake area. Jim became a hunter and trapper at a very young age and maintained this lifestyle as a means to provide for his extensive young family.

Life for Jim was always exciting, as his home encompassed all of the K'atl'odeeche First Nation territory. During his younger years he lived in different locations as the need arose; such as; Fish Point to “Hang Fish”; Buffalo Lake “for Trapping”; and Buffalo River to “Hunt” etc.; The location of this new wilderness lodge facility at  “Sandy Creek”, was another one of Jim’s successful harvesting areas.

The K'atl'odeeche First Nation is proud to have known such a wonderful person and as a show of appreciation for his contribution to the wellbeing of the Dene people, the K'atl'odeeche First Nation has chosen to honour his life by naming this facility, The Jim Lamalice Wilderness Lodge. A fitting tribute for a successful, kind, gentle Dene Elder.
